Frequently asked questions
Which files and batch sizes are supported?
Select up to 30 JPG, PNG or static WebP images, up to 200 MiB total. Each file must be at most 30 MiB, 50 megapixels and 32,767 pixels on either side. You can mix these input formats.
Why is WebP output unavailable in Safari?
Safari can display WebP images but cannot encode WebP with the browser canvas used by this tool. WebP output is disabled when encoding is unsupported. Use a browser with WebP encoding support or choose JPG or PNG.
Is WebP always smaller than JPG?
No. File size depends on the image and quality setting. Compare the output before replacing a JPG. Use the compression tool if you need an explicit KB limit.
Can conversion restore detail or remove the background?
No. Converting a JPG cannot restore lost detail or create a transparent background from an opaque source. It creates a new encoding of the existing image.
What happens to EXIF and photo orientation?
Conversion re-encodes the image and removes EXIF, including any stored camera or location details. Orientation is applied to the pixels. Keep the original if you need its metadata.
Will every app accept the converted image?
No. Confirm that your destination accepts WebP. If it requires JPG or PNG, choose that output format instead.
JPG photos as the source
JPG is widely used for camera photos and stores images without transparency. Converting the decoded photo to WebP allows another quality setting, but it does not recover detail lost earlier.
